Michael Austin

CPA, CA

As a Manager with Manning Elliott LLP since March 2013, Michael has a core expertise in assurance services. He specializes in public company audits and interim reviews.

Michael handles the audits of a diverse client base of Canadian and U.S. public companies. These include: exploration companies, investment funds and Internet-based businesses. For his U.S. public company clients, Michael manages quarterly review engagements and reviews Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings.

Before joining Manning Elliott, Michael was a designated professional at MNP LLP. In that firm’s public company audit group, he performed planning and supervised fieldwork for Canadian and U.S. public companies’ audit and review engagements.

Michael also obtained experience in the not-for-profit field. As Accounting Assistant at the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society, he performed bank deposit reconciliations for cash, cheque and credit card transactions. Michael also managed and updated the donor database using the software program Raiser’s Edge.

Michael was designated a CPA, CA in February 2012. He has a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Toronto, and a Bachelor of Business Administration (joint major in Business Administration and Economics) from Simon Fraser University.

Interested in both Japanese language – he enjoys some working proficiency – and culture, Michael is an active member of Vancouver Mokuyokai Society, which promotes Canada-Japan relations and networking events. He lived for five years in Osaka, Japan, working as an English Language instructor, not to mention savouring Japanese food!

Not surprisingly, in his travels Michael particularly likes to explore Asia. As well as Japan, he’s been to China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines.
