Sheryne Mecklai, a partner in Manning Elliott’s Tax Department, focuses mainly on estate planning and business succession services for Canadian owner-managed businesses in a wide range of industries. Sheryne has extensive experience working on complex estate plans, corporate reorganizations, cross-border planning for individuals, assisting owner-managers to transition their businesses to family members or third parties, and Canadian corporate, trust and personal tax planning and compliance.

Sheryne works with each client’s unique objectives to develop tax-effective strategies. She then quarterbacks the implementation of these strategies by developing detailed steps, undertaking a thorough tax analysis and assisting the client’s legal and financial advisors to complete the strategies. In addition, Sheryne works closely with her clients to ensure that they have clear information to undertake and implement these strategies – ensuring that they are able to make the best financial and tax decisions.

Professional background and activities

Sheryne has a Bachelor of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University, with a concentration in Accounting. On receiving her CA designation in 2002, she began working in the Canadian income tax department of an international accounting firm. A tax practitioner for over 10 years, Sheryne has completed all three levels of the Chartered Accountants of Canada In-Depth Income Tax Course, as well as other advanced-level tax courses. Sheryne also obtained her Trusts and Estate Practitioner designation in 2016.

Sheryne has always had an interest in teaching new tax practitioners and students. She is an active tutor for the CPA In-Depth Tax Course.
